SCARDINO, COURTNEY & FAZEL, L.L.P. calls the Sweeny, Coombs & Fredericks Building home. Located at the corner of Main Street and Congress Avenue in downtown Houston, the office location gives easy access to both state and federal courts.

The building itself is the second oldest commercial building in Houston; listed in the National Registry of Historical Buildings; part of the State Archeological List; and, recorded as a Texas Historical Landmark in 1974.

Originally built by William A. Van Allstyne in 1861, the present structure is the result of an 1889 renovation by George E. Dickey. A late-Victorian design with its three-corner turret and incorporated East-lake decorative elements is one of the most-photographed buildings in the state.

The original structure was purchased in 1882 by John Jasper Sweeny and Edward L. Coombs; Gus Fredericks joined the Sweeny and Coombs Jewelry firm sometime before 1889.

Over the years, the building has housed a variety of businesses, including a jeweler, a garment manufacturer, a pawnshop and the City of Houston Building Permits Division to name a few.

The building fell into disrepair and enjoyed a complete renovation in 1998 by a group who includes John Tsertos, Robert A. Scardino, Joe Scardino and Timothy Horan
